On the southern tip of Hawaii’s Big Island lies a beach unlike any other — the officially named Papakōlea Beach, better known as the Green Sand Beach.
Formed thousands of years ago by volcanic eruptions, its shimmering green hue comes from olivine crystals — minerals born deep within the Earth. Over time, the wind and waves broke them down, creating the rare emerald-colored sand you see today.
The journey there is an adventure in itself. Standing in the back of a truck, hanging on to the side rails, I felt the rush of wind and the thrill of the ride. It remains one of the most unforgettable activities of my life.
And then, finally, the reward:
A secluded, otherworldly shore that felt like a hidden treasure only a true adventurer could reach. Its beauty is raw, unique, and unlike anything else on Earth.
For an hour, I did nothing but soak in the untouched magic of nature — the waves, the wind, and the countless shades of green blending with the deep blues of the Pacific.
Time in Hawaii felt different.
Unlike my fast-paced, efficient days in New York, here my heart slowed down. My mind found stillness. I experienced a rare kind of peace and freedom.
Hawaii gave me more than just sights to see — it gave me a place where my soul felt unhurried, as if moving to the gentle rhythm of the island itself.
